Having a hot breakfast for my girls every morning has always been really important to me. It was how I was raised! However, sometimes the mornings just get away from me and before I know it there is no time to make a hot breakfast.
Lately I have been making the “hot” breakfast ahead of time. This is so nice because when morning comes, I don’t even have to think about it! Right after the dinner dishes are done, I prepare whatever is being served for breakfast the next day.
One of my oldest daughter’s morning chores is to come out and pop whatever I have prepared, into the oven and within 30-45 minutes we are all sitting around the table ready to eat.
This has really freed up my mornings!
Today I am going to share one of our favorite breakfast dishes that can be made ahead of time and stuck in the fridge for the next day. Its super easy and you can make it as big or as small as you need for your family.
This Gluten Free French Toast bake is so delicious! I love the simplicity of it, yet you are still getting a hot meal right at the beginning of your day. If you don’t need to be gluten free just simply use regular bread and all purpose flour!
Gluten Free French Toast Bake
Materials
- 12 slices Gluten Free Bread I use my homemade recipe!
- 1 cup Milk
- 1/4 cup Heavy Cream
- 4 Eggs
- 1/3 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla
Topping
- 1/4 cup All Purpose Gluten Free Flour I use Cup 4 Cup
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 stick Cold Butter
Instructions
- Butter a 11×7 baking dish really well. Cut your bread slices into bite size pieces and place in your baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, mix together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar. Pour over the bread slices and make sure each piece gets soaked in the egg mixture.
- Now for the topping. Mix together flour, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in butter using a pastry cutter until it forms a soft crumble.
- Pour over the top of your bread and stick in the fridge until ready to bake or bake right away.
- Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Top with powdered sugar once out of the oven if desired!
One of the tools I use to cut in the butter is a pastry cutter, I have linked the one I have below. If you don’t have one you definitely don’t have to buy one. You can use two butter knives! Although the pastry cutter does make it easier!
Add this French toast bake into your breakfast line up and you won’t be disappointed! Your family will be very happy that you did!
