A Day in the Life of Our Backgrounding Cattle Operation

Homesteading became a journey we embarked on quite a few years ago. It was something that I had great interest in and a passion for. Clint got on board and we started living this lifestyle, however our backgrounding cattle operation is our livelihood.

We have always raised our own beef, so why not try growing our own food, preserving that food, cook from scratch, and get other animals that can provide for us.

Seemed simple enough! Although we created a fulfilling lifestyle of simple living tossed with a lot of hard work, one thing remained the same…. Our backgrounding cattle operation was how we make a living and is the center for all that we do around here.

Our Backgrounding Cattle Operation

I love to do all the homesteading parts of our ranch. Gardening, canning, raising chickens, and cooking from scratch. But the bulk of our ranch is set up for our backgrounding operation.

This is how we make a living and it is Clint’s passion. You likely won’t get him to talk much, but ask him questions about cattle and you won’t get him to be quiet!

I love that this simple way of life can fulfill both of our passions.

When looking out into our pastures you will find between 200-400 light weight calves out grazing at all times. Raising and feeding cattle is the center of what we do, which is why it is high time we walk you through what our operation looks like!

Make sure to take a look at how we got started out here in Missouri after choosing to move cross country to expand out cattle operation.

You may be thinking…. “what exactly is backgrounding cattle?” “How do they handle that many cattle?” and “What are they feeding all those cattle?”

Today I tagged along with Clint to give you a behind the scenes of our operation and to answer all those questions and more! Come check it out!

Behind the Scenes of our Backgrounding Cattle Operation:

Our operation only works because we all work together. As a family we are doing all the work and making such sweet memories along the way!

Leave a comment below with any questions you have that we didn’t answer. We love to explain about our operation and how it all works!
