One of the first things to go was coffee creamers when I started this healthy journey. I typically enjoy a hot cup of coffee with a splash of milk but every once in a while I like a treat, like this salted caramel coffee creamer.
If you are someone who loves their morning coffee sweet and with a lot of creamer, I urge you to give this one a try!
The creamer from the grocery stores is made with questionable ingredients and artificial flavor. When I am looking to make the switch for a healthier version, I am always looking for real whole ingredients in the product.
The good news is I have made this salted caramel coffee creamer for many friends and even they can’t believe it is made with real ingredients.
It is important to note that I am using brown sugar in the recipe to make the caramel. So using this homemade coffee creamer every day will start your day off with sugar and may not be the healthiest. However, in moderation this delicious salted caramel creamer will be a delicious treat!
Can this salted caramel coffee creamer be made dairy free?
Yes this salted caramel coffee creamer can be made dairy free! Alas, all my dairy free friends can enjoy a morning cup of coffee with a non dairy creamer!
Use your favorite unsweetened dairy substitute such as coconut milk, cashew milk, or almond milk in place of the milk and coconut cream in place of the heavy cream.
Just know that depending on the non dairy milk you choose will change the flavor slightly. Make sure to use one that you love!
Can I make it with coconut sugar?
You are trying to avoid sugars. I get it! I don’t like to use sugar as much as possible too.
The good thing is this recipe is versatile! You can replace the brown sugar for coconut sugar when making the caramel and it is delicious.
If you are someone that loves very sweet coffee, this may not be a great option for you right away. Brown sugar definitely gives a much sweeter coffee, however the coconut sugar gives off a nutty caramel flavor which I love.
What better way to make a caramel then with a healthy sugar that tastes like caramel!

Hi, this may be a dumb question, what’s the difference between cream in the caramel recipe vs the heavy cream in the creamer recipe?
Stephanie
Not dumb at all! They are essential the same thing. You need the cream to make caramel and then I use cream also in the creamer to give it a thicker substance. Heavy cream is the first layer of cream, farthest from the milk when you use raw milk. It is super thick. Straight cream is closer to the milk. However, I use heavy cream and cream interchangeably. If you are buying cream from the store, you can buy heavy cream and use it for both parts of the recipe, in the creamer and in the caramel sauce.
