It’s that time of year again!
Time to start seeds for your summer garden. My very first year gardening, I bought my starts from my local nursery. This is a fantastic option when you are just getting started or if major life events happen and you need simplicity.
However, buying all your starts at a nursery can be very expensive. You also don’t have control over what varieties you are planting, since you are bound to whatever your local nursery is carrying that year.
That is why I highly recommend starting your garden from seeds!
Starting seeds is fairly easy to do. There is some cost up front, in the initial investment, however you can save all your trays, cups, and lights year after year. I even save my waterproof tags!
Watch and see how I start my seeds:
Finding good quality seeds is very important. You don’t want to go through all this work and then have seeds not germinate. That can be very frustrating, which is why I am picky about where I buy my seeds from.
Where I bought all my seeds for my 2022 garden:
I usually buy all of my seeds at Baker Seed Company. That has been my go-to seed company for years! This year, I did still buy some of my varieties at Baker Seed Company, but most of my seeds I bought elsewhere.
Some very dear friends of mine started a seed company this year, so I decided to support their family and buy most of my seeds from them. The Grateful Harvest has a good selection of seeds to choose from with many varieties. They are a small family business that takes pride in what they do. I fully trust and have confidence in their seeds and loved the varieties they had to offer!
The Grateful Harvest also has an incredibly helpful sheet on their website that breaks down the timeline of starting seeds by vegetable! I will link that here. This is a great tool to reference when determining what seeds to start according to your last frost date in your zone.
Once you have your seeds, potting soil, and trays you are ready to get started! I am all about saving money around here and starting seeds is the perfect way to save money when it comes to your garden.
