How to get your stovetop sparkling clean again…

Does your stove top get really dirty? Does it ever look like this?

My stove gets a lot of use every day. It gets dumped on, spilled on, and constantly gets worked multiple times a day. I used to go out and buy the glass stovetop cleaners from the store. But as I started this journey to a healthier lifestyle I didn’t want to run out to the store every time I needed a cleaning product. Plus, I didn’t know what was in those products and I was trying to detox my home. So, I started making my own…

Once I started making my own cleaning products and trying to not buy chemicals from the store, I went on a hunt to find a stovetop cleaner. I wanted it to be another healthy and safe product I could make right here in my home!

At first, I just went straight to baking soda and sprinkled it on top of my stove and started scrubbing. It worked but I never felt it did as good of a job as the store-bought stuff. And one thing I’m adamant about, is that I want my products to be safe AND effective. If it’s not both then I don’t want to use it and waste my time.

And then one day I had an epiphany…. Well maybe not quite an epiphany, but an idea popped into my head. What if I used baking soda as a base ingredient but made a soft scrub type cleaner for the stovetop?

So, the experimenting began!

With a little trial and error, I finally came up with a stovetop cleaner that works great and gets all that grime and gunk off!

If you would rather watch how to do it instead of read it, follow the link below to my You Tube video tutorial…

Here is what you need…

1 cup baking soda

2 TBSP water

¼ cup tea tree castile soap

2TBSP vinegar

1tsp salt

10 drops Purify essential oil

What To Do…

First, you are going to mix your baking soda, salt, and soap in a mixing bowl and stir well. Now, I recommend using a good salt for all your cooking and baking but for this product a cheap salt will be just fine!

Next, add your water and stir to incorporate. Then, add your vinegar 1 TBSP at a time (so it doesn’t fizz too much) and stir after each one.

Lastly, you will add your 10 drops of Purify essential oil to your mix and mix it well. Put it in a container and store under your sink or where the rest of your cleaning products are for kitchen use, until you are ready to use it!

Now Purify is a blend of essential oils that is made by doTERRA. It has lemon, lime, tea tree and other oils in it that are all great to use in cleaning products. So, instead of adding drops of each of them individually I choose to just use the one oil with it all!

**If you don’t have Purify, feel free to experiment with other oils. And as always, if you don’t have essential oils in general, shoot me an email so I can share with you how to become a wholesale customer with doTERRA and get all your oils at wholesale cost!

Some other oils to try in your mix:

-Lemon

-Lemongrass

-Wild Orange

-Tea Tree

When You’re Ready To Use It…

When your stove has gotten really grimy and your ready to use, just take a sponge and rub a decent amount on all the areas of your stove that needs a good cleaning. I don’t measure this, I just eye ball it!

Then using the scrubber side of your sponge, scrub away and see all the gunk disappear before your eyes! Once everything is scrubbed off, wipe clean with a cloth or paper towel and BAM! You have a nice shiny stovetop again!

Why These Ingredients…

A couple notes on the ingredients I selected.

Baking soda… if you are not currently using baking soda in cleaning products, then you should be. It is a safe way to make ALL SORTS of cleaning products and it works really well. Baking soda will give you that added punch in getting out the grime and gunk. It will dissolve the stuck-on grease and help remove it from your stove top while also de-odorizing.

Tea Tree Castile Soap… I choose to use castile soap instead of regular dish soap because it is not super sudsy, and it is very concentrated. So, I know I am getting a good powerful soap BUT won’t get all the bubbles with it. It will suds a little bit, but nothing like what Dawn dish soap would do. I also choose to go with the Tea Tree one because Tea Tree is an antibacterial, so I want it to disinfect my stovetop as it is cleaning.

Vinegar… I add vinegar to it as a de-greaser and it also is an antibacterial agent as well. This helps to get the greasy mess on your stovetop off while also killing any bacteria that is there.

Salt… The salt is just giving you added scrub power! It is an effective yet gentle scouring agent to your scrub.

Now that you have all your ingredients and you know what they are doing in your mix, go make your soft scrub today and get your stovetop sparkling clean!
